Education You Get From Your Family

Family – this is where it all begins.

You start learning even before you can remember. Other people have to tell you when you took your first steps or what your very first word was. We are given the ability to learn the moment we land on this Earth. We learn so we can survive and evolve. That’s it. That’s all we are doing! Learning is the act of moving forward. Through learning the world around us becomes more familiar, more fun, and probably less scary.

We were learning even before we knew what learning was The truth is that we are not born in charge of our learning process. Other people become responsible to teach us the ropes of life, until we know enough to take charge of our own learning (surviving and evolving).

But what happens when the people who teach us haven’t learned enough themselves?

Have you ever asked yourself these questions:

  • What is the ideal environment to grow up in?

  • What exactly do you need to learn?

  • What happens if you don’t learn everything you need to learn?

Well, we all kind of know the answer to the last question, at least. If I am writing this and you are reading this right now, it’s because we know how catastrophic it can be to lack knowledge and be sent off to the ocean of life without knowing how to swim properly. We do have the option to become swimming champions, but until then – that moment when we are thrown into the water is what defines a family’s success, it differentiates a good family from a bad one. The family’s success or failure is measured at that moment. The success rate is calculated by measuring the degree of fear a child feels when he or she goes into the waters of life, and whether that child knows how to learn, evolve and ultimately survive.

What is the ideal environment to grow up in?

Full disclosure: the perfect family doesn’t exist. Families that create a good environment exist, as do the ones who don’t. What do families that create an optimal environment have compared to the other ones?

  1. Psychological understanding and self-knowledge

  2. Growth mindset

  3. Taking action constantly

  4. Healthy core values

  5. Lots of love

  6. Fun

  7. Financial education

  8. Easily forgiving

  9. Balancing extremes, everything comes in a proper amount

  10. Know how important a good environment is (home)

Wow, just noticed I added 10. Like the 10 commandments of a healthy family environment.

What do you need to learn in your family to avoid unnecessary complications in life?

  1. how to survive

  2. how to communicate

  3. how to act in public (manners)

  4. how to know and take care of yourself (basic psychology and self-care)

  5. how to defend yourself

  6. how to make decisions

  7. how to save up/ invest money

  8. how to make sense of your environment and life

  9. how to develop your own healthy core values

  10. how to have fun

  11. how to give and receive love

What happens if you don’t learn what you need to learn?

You will have to learn to unlearn and learn again. There comes a point when you have to take those reins of life and be your own family. That will probably be one of the hardest things you will do, but the most freeing, enlightening, and natural thing you will ever do in your life. There comes a time when it will all make sense. Learn to be your own parents! Create your own environment!

Help from the rule of compensation

The rule of compensation is the belief that whatever is missing in your life will still manifest but maybe later on and in a different form. For example, I didn’t have grandparents while growing up but I did have an extraordinary aunt who was like a second mother to me. I visited her in the countryside every summer when I was young and she taught me the magic power of education. And that was enough for me to start building what was missing.

Whatever seems to be lacking now in your life, I can assure you that it’s on its way to get to you. Or maybe you already have it and just need to take a closer look).
